How heater sizing works
The usual rule in Finland is about one kilowatt of electric heater for each cubic metre of a well-insulated sauna room. Every square metre of glass, tile or uninsulated masonry adds about 1.2 m³ to the figure, because those surfaces soak up heat.
Wood-burning stoves are sold with a recommended room volume range instead, and their nominal output is higher than an electric heater’s. Pick a stove whose range includes your calculated volume, ideally near the middle of it.
Too small a heater runs hot for a long time and the steam turns sharp; too big a heater gives short, stinging löyly. If in doubt, ask us and we size it with your drawings.
How the walls are built
Inside out
Spruce panelling, a ventilated gap, a foil vapour barrier, 100 mm of mineral wool in a timber frame, a wind barrier and spruce cladding outside.
Air and moisture
A fresh-air vent low near the heater and an exhaust vent high on the opposite wall keep the air fresh and help the room dry after use.
Benches
Aspen or alder boards on removable frames, so you can lift them out to clean and dry the floor underneath.
